Professor Stephanie Ann Frampton, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will speak on "Books as Friends." Her talks takes “redisse cum veteribus amicis, id est cum libris nostris (to have returned with old friends, that is, with our books)” from Cicero Fam. 9.1 as a starting place and moves broadly over classical receptions from Petrarch to Ahmed, so it should have appeal to a wider audience.
