Dr. Alberto Barrón Ruiz de la Cuesta, former postdoctoral researcher of the University of Cantabria (Spain), is an Arthur E. and Joyce S. Gordon fellow at the Center. He is working in the research project An Empire in Motion: Epigraphic GIS Web and Historical Analysis of people’s mobility in the Roman West (HAR2017-84711-P). His field of research focuses on the social and geographic mobility of prosperous freedmen in the Roman Empire through the study of the seviratus Augustalis, a position that was mostly held by freedmen. During his stay in the Center for Epigraphical and Palaeographical Studies, he will analyze the evidences of this institution in the territories of Pannonia and Moesia, considering the proofs of mobility and regional interactions and networks, as well as the particularities of the Augustalitas in those regions like the denominations, the group identity and the official recognition of this institution.

We're very happy to have Alberto with us!
